Submit Educational Grant Proposal

Criteria for Applying for Grant Support from the Glenda Garvey Teaching Academy

The Glenda Garvey Teaching Academy provides support for innovative educational projects.  A particular emphasis will be on projects which involve more than one School or which can be generalized to the Health Sciences Center.

Applicant should be full time faculty in one of the Schools of the Health Sciences Campus. Applicants do not need to be Fellows of the Glenda Garvey Teaching Academy (GGTA)".

Projects can involve teaching in any of the many settings that exist on the Health Sciences Campus including lectures, small groups, seminars, etc.

The maximum amount of the grants will be $20,000.

The support will be provided over a maximum of two years.

The application should include the following on the online forms provided. Please download and fill out the Microsoft Word Form.

  1. Abstract of the proposed project (150 words)
  2. A description of the problem to be addressed.
  3. A list of the specific aims of the proposal followed by a description of the methods to be used in achieving the aims and solving this problem.
  4. A method to evaluate the effectiveness of the project.
  5. A description of the way in which the project will influence and/or be incorporated into the curriculum of one or more of the health sciences professional Schools.
  6. A time line. The project should be developed, implemented and evaluated within a maximum of two years. Benchmarks with target completion dates during the project should be specified.
  7. A budget. Grant funds should be used to support faculty time for the project as well as for material and supplies.  This should be time free from other research or clinical responsibilities.  A line item budget for personnel and other expenses (e.g. supplies, travel) should be submitted.
  8. Budget justification  A brief narrative should be provided to justify the amount of each line item in relation to the aims of the project.
  9. BioSketches (NIH format) of all key personnel participating in the project.
  10. Statement of commitment to complete the project within the proposed time frame, to present it at the next Glenda Garvey Teaching Academy (GGTA)" Education Day,  and to disseminate the findings through planned submission for publication.

    The application should not exceed three pages, exclusive of abstract, budget.    biosketches, commitment statement and supporting letters.

    The application should include letters from the appropriate Departmental Chair or Academic Program Director supporting the incorporation of the project into the curriculum of the school and confirming that time will be free from other activities for the project.

    Submission:  Submit 3 copies to Dr. T.J. Garrett at Black Building,
    Room 1516.

    Announcement of grant recipients March 24, 2008

    Education Day Presentation Ceremony April 1, 2007 at 4:00 PM

  13. The applications will be reviewed and ranked by a committee of six of the current Fellows of the Academy who will represent all of the Schools.  Each application will be reviewed by at least one Fellow from a School other than that of the applicant. Applications will be assessed on originality, feasibility and applicability across the Health Sciences community.

Projects will be presented at the Educational Day of the Glenda Garvey Teaching Academy (GGTA)" and should be submitted for publication in a print education journal or on-line repository (e.g. MedEdPORTAL).
